An unidentified young girl’s body has been discovered on Surfers Paradise Beach on Queensland’s Gold Coast overnight.

Emergency services were called to an unresponsive girl, who is said to be an infant, on the beach at Staghorn Avenue and the Esplanade at around 12.30am on Monday.

They performed CPR but were reportedly unable to revive the girl.

A crime scene has been set up on the popular beach located less than a kilometre from where Schoolies were celebrating.

It is believed that a patron walking along the beach made the shocking discovery and called paramedics.

Detectives are currently working to determine the infant’s cause of death and to confirm her identity.
