SUCK IT, SKYWRITERS: ‘Yes’ Campaign Raising $ To Fly Huge Pride Flag Over Syd

Now that’s what we like to see.

After that nonsense in the sky over Sydney yesterday morning (in case you missed it, everyone had brunch ruined by a fuck-off big “VOTE NO” in the clear blue, which pleasingly was blown away within minutes but was still HELLA RUDE), some plucky ‘Yes’ campaigners have started a GoFundMe to respond in kind.

Initially a plan to skywrite “VOTE YES“, the retort has now been reimagined in the form of a helicopter towing a gigantic rainbow flag through the sky over Sydney.

Interestingly, the reason the fundraisers ditched the skywriting idea in the first place was because the only skywriting company in Sydney is apparently owned by active members of the Australian Christian Lobby. The higher the small business, the closer to God, I guess?

(This new information possibly explains the motive behind yesterday’s sky-scrawl as well, as usually getting shit written on the dome of the world is e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e.)

The GoFundMe has so far raised just over $1,400 of its $4,000 goal, and considering it’s only been active for a day, it’s goin’ pretty blood well, we’d say.

The folks behind it have promised to donate part of the funds raised to charities that work with LGBTQIA+ kids as well.

In these dark times of “respectful debate”, it’s kind of nice seeing the furore reduced to bold gestures in the sky above our heads: two brutish words, followed by a joyous, fluttering rainbow. Go give ’em some money, and let’s get this done.
