Street Performer In Melbourne Catches Fire After Candle Stunt Goes South

A woman in her 20s has been taken to hospital in serious condition after a performance went horribly awry earlier this afternoon.
The woman, a street performer, caught fire mid-act, suffering serious burns in the process.
Reports suggest that the woman was in the middle of balancing candles on her body when one set her dress alight. Witnesses at the scene reportedly attempted to douse the flames with bottles of water.
Sky News reporter Ahron Young witnessed the scene from a nearby office building and described the screaming coming from the woman as “terrifying.”

“I can’t stress the amount of screaming she was doing, it was terrifying. I’ve never heard screaming like that before.”

Ambulance, fire, and police crews quickly attended the scene and assisted the woman, who was conscious and was able to move onto a stretcher.

Ambulance crews confirmed the woman was taken to Alfred Hospital suffering serious burns to her back and leg.
The incident occurred on the red performance stage in Queensbridge Square, in Melbourne’s Southbank tourist precinct.
