‘Star Wars’ Breaks $1 Billion, Stomps On ‘Jurassic World’ In 12 Days

Episode VIII of the Star Wars franchise has smashed worldwide box office numbers by surpassing USD$1 billion in just 12 days.

The previous record holder, Jurassic World, took 13 days to reach the billion dollar mark earlier this year, and before that Avatar held the record at 19 days.

The Force Awakens owes much of its success to a record-pulverising Christmas Day, taking USD$49.3 million on that day alone, more than double the standing record set by 2009’s Sherlock Holmes.
The film is still yet to open in China, the world’s second largest movie-going market, so we’re sure George Lucas will pretty much own the galaxy by the the end of January.
Hey George, wanna spot us a fifty?
