Stan’s Bloody Grouse ‘Wolf Creek’ Series Got Sold To A US Cable Network

It’s a good day for the Australian TV industry, yes it is.

Surprisingly good streaming service and Netflix‘s chief Australian rival Stan has thrown its hat into the original programming game as of late, and by far and away its biggest success so far was the seriously good six-part ‘Wolf Creek‘ TV adaptation.
Dropping on May 12th this year, the series was widely praised for sticking closer to the grim, brooding tone of the original ‘Wolf Creek‘, rather than the outright batshit insanity of the subsequent sequel. The show was also widely applauded for its beautiful cinematography and vast, isolated settings, and the performances of its cast (chiefly John Jarrett, who by now has the Mick Taylor character down to a fine science).
It’s so good that merely hoarding to ourselves feels a little greedy. And the show’s producers apparently agree.
The six-episode series has been picked up by US basic cable channel Pop TV has announced that they’ve acquired the series and will air it in the US as a major “television event” this coming October.
The Pop network is a basic cable joint collaboration between US media giants CBS and Lionsgate, and currently boasts a reasonably thin selection of original programming, such as the Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara sitcom ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ Alan Thicke‘s reality TV series ‘Unusually Thicke,’ and TNA dumpster fire ‘Impact Wrestling.’

The success of ‘Wolf Creek,’ coupled with other niche Australian programs being successfully sold to the US (like Josh Thomas‘ delightful comedy ‘Please Like Me‘) is big news for the continued development of high quality TV shows in Australia.
Wolf Creek‘ airs in the US from October 14th. You can still watch it all right this very second on Stan.
