SportsBet Tells Punters To “Take A Break” With New App-Locking Feature

Businesses that make bank from inherently risky activities like gambling tread a fine line between looking out for themselves, or looking out for their customers. SportsBet’s new ad campaign looks like it could be another win for the latter camp.
A new, casually-blokey ad campaign says “mates can tell when their buddies are getting a bit shaky on the punt”, before showing the company’s recently-launched “Take A Break” feature. Its premise is deceptively simple, allowing punters to force the app to stop them betting. With a couple of screen-taps, the app can lock itself down for hours, days, or even permanently.
It’s worth noting that by choosing to run the ads on tele during high-rating programs like Top Gear and The Big Bang Theory, Sportsbet’s new initiative might be a bit more than empty tokenism.

Again, fair warning, this is an industry that operates by allowing people to take big risks with their cash. Still, when up to 500,000 Aussies might be at risk of problem gambling, the feature is deffo the type of thing we could stand to see more often.
