This 1996 Clip Predicted The NBA Cancelling The Season ‘Coz ‘Space Jam’ Is Real Life Now

The internet is going wild over a scene from the 1996 film Space Jam, which seems to have accurately predicted that the NBA would suspend an entire season of the game to protect the health and safety of basketball players.

Get your tin-foil hats ready because we’re back with another conspiracy theory about how TV and film can predict the future because it’s 2020 and the world is literally a joke. We’re living in a real life Looney Tunes film.

In case you missed it, the IRL NBA actually suspended the rest of this season after a player tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Eerily, this real-life event was depicted almost perfectly in the 1996 film, which similarly involved the NBA season being called off. Granted, the NBA was fearful of aliens in Space Jam, not the threat of coronavirus, but you get the idea.

“After meeting with team owners, I have decided that until we guarantee the health and safety of our NBA players, there will be no more basketball this season,” the NBA says in the film.

You know what they say, life imitates art. Maybe we’re living in the Space Jam sequel we’ve all been waiting for.

Regardless of the fact that we’re (hopefully) not at risk of an alien invasion, fans on Twitter were quick to draw comparisons to Space Jam.

It’s been a wild day in news, but I don’t think anyone had “the Looney Tunes predicted the future” in their 2020 bingo.
