South Australia Is Closing Its Borders To Greater Melbourne Tonight, Which Is Fine, I’m Fine

South Australia

Well, South Australia has pulled the trigger and shut its borders to travellers coming in from greater Melbourne amid a COVID-19 cluster.

The border closure will come into effect as of 6pm today, Premier Steven Marshall announced on Wednesday.

South Australians in Melbourne will be allowed to return home, but they must complete 14 days of quarantine.

The only other people exempt from these restriction are essential travellers who carry the appropriate permit.

Anybody who has returned to the state from greater Melbourne since May 20 will also need to get tested on days one, five, and 13 of being back in South Australia.

“In fact, testing on day one, five, and 13 and again after that first test is taken, they will need to go into isolation pending a negative result coming through,” Marshall instructed, per The Guardian.

“People coming in from Bendigo will be permitted, but they will need to undertake tests on day one, five, and 13 and again isolate pending that negative result from test number one.”

Marshall said his thoughts are with everybody in Victoria at the moment, especially those of us in Melbourne.

“Any outbreak in Australia is something that we need to take extraordinarily seriously at the moment,” he said.

“Australia’s doing extraordinarily well in tackling the coronavirus compared to just about any jurisdiction in the world. So we have got to work together to make sure that we don’t have further outbreaks and if there are, we do everything we can to keep our population safe.”
