New satellite technology is being installed in Mosman, which will notify parking rangers by text message as soon as you have gone over your parking limit.
It’s apparently going to be just for ‘data collection’ for the first 12 months, and its use beyond a year is uncertain. One councillor has already said what we are dreading to hear though, that dishing out fines would undoubtedly be the next step.
“As day follows night, this will be an enforcement system and that’s a game changer,” Councillor Peter White said.
Councillor Simon Menzies, however, said the thing that we are all immediately thinking:
“…The council will make a fortune,” Cr Menzies said. “The premise is that it will be installed for data collection but the real reason is to generate revenue.“
“I know the community will be up in arms about this.“
