Somehow There’s A Batman/Elmer Fudd Crossover Comic & It Kinda Totally Rules

We’re at a point now where the comic book industry is more or less flinging their arms in the air, declaring “fuck it,” and actually following through with every half-baked, cockamamie idea that comes across the desk.

And they’re executing them flawlessly, to boot.
Deep in the pile of “will never happen” comes the latest mind-boggling character crossover from – would you even believe – DC Comics and Looney Tunes.
Somehow, someone somewhere had the frankly outrageous idea to convert Elmer Fudd – the rabbit and duck-hunting buffoon – into a terrifying villain in the ‘Batman‘ universe.
Yes, folks. You read that right. There now exists a Batman & Elmer Fudd crossover comic. And it kind of, sort of, totally fucking rules.
Rather than being a playful, cartoonish romp, the grit of Gotham City seems to have gotten to Fudd in this version; a dark noir featuring Elmer as a grieving and relentless hunter and killer, out for revenge for the death of his girlfriend at the hands of, he believes, Bugs.
Far beyond suddenly having anthropomorphic animals running around Gotham, the Looney Tunes world is transposed into human equivalents: Bugs is a “bucktoothed gun-for-hire,” Foghorn Leghorn is a goddamned smooth-talking southern card shark, Yosemite Sam is a grizzly biker (obviously), Porky owns a bar, and Tweety is a diminutive lothario with a giant head and a foul mouth.
Seriously.
Look.
Bruce Wayne (or “Bwuce Wayne” if you will) gets drawn into the mix, and thus we have the inherent conflict between Batman and Elmer Fudd; two principled, if not sociopathic, vigilantes on a collision course, each with their own access to an arsenal and a unique set of morals binding them.
HOLY. SHIT.
The comic is already receiving widespread praise for taking the concept deadly serious, avoiding any farcical pratfalls and blending a hint of slapstick into proceedings that makes the whole thing less a comical experiment and more like a ready-made universe that feels like it’s “meant to be.”
Wonders never cease sometimes. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to the comic store immediately.
Batman/Elmer Fudd Special #1‘ is available right now.
