Some Douchebag Changed ‘O Canada’ To ‘All Lives Matter’ At An MLB Game

Look, there’s one sure-fire way to get people riled up, and that’s to take it upon yourself to change the lyrics of a National Anthem while you’re singing it.
And if you happen to change those lyrics to make a political statement, it’s gonna get people *really* bloody steamed.
And if that political statement just-so-happens to be the current catch-cry of the ignorant and mostly racist, then you’re better off getting ahead of the mob by bashing yourself just to save them the trouble.
The MLB All-Star game is currently happening in the sunny city of San Diego (the whale’s vagina, colloquially), where the best of the American League and the best of the National League are duking it out for bragging rights.
Prior to the start of the game, as is American tradition, the teams lined up, hats over hearts, for the American national anthem. The ole’ Star Spangled Banner. Fitting, given the game of baseball is often referred to as “America’s pastime.”
But, owing to the existence of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Canadian national anthem was also sung before the game. And this is where it all went bung in an enormous hurry.
Canadian/American-based vocal group The Tenors were enlisted to handle the duty of singing ‘O Canada,’ which is usually a fairly uneventful, straightforward task.
Only on this occasion, one member of the group took it upon himself to alter the lyrics of *CANADA’S NATIONAL ANTHEM* to include a reference to All Lives Matter: the ignorant, reactionary, inflammatory phrase that crops up every time the phrase “Black Lives Matter” is uttered, almost always by people who don’t fully understand the issue they’re discussing.
Where normally the song should go “With glowing hearts/we see thee rise,” it was instead sung as “We’re all brothers and sisters/all lives matter.
Yep.

Yikes. As thunderously stupid a decision as you could possibly ever see in that situation.
Though the stuff-up wasn’t shown in the US (the American broadcast had cut to a commercial) it was shown live to air in Canada, and the internet’s exasperation was instant and palpable.

And hey! Wouldn’t you bloody know it, the rest of the group weren’t exactly stoked on having their moment in the sun turned into a political circus. The “lone wolf” member has apparently already been booted from the band.

Presumably that bloke is now gonna embark on a wildly mediocre career pivot, culminating in a country solo album entitled “America: Love It or Shove It.”

Maybe next time just… I dunno… sing the damned anthem as is.
