Snapchat Release Update, Declares All Other Human Interaction Pointless

Folks, if you were sitting there wondering when Snapchat‘s total domination of social media and/or your life was going to take place, that would be today.

They’ve just overhauled the app with the Chat 2.0 update, and it’s essentially now a phone letting you call people even if they’re not already chatting to you / want to talk right now.

Snapchat is 4eva. Other new + improved features of the update include:

  • 200+ stickers available in chat – and they’ll instantly find the ones related to what you’ve typed, like “love”, “help”, or “omfg like what is even happening” (probably).
  • Video notes – also called ‘GIFs you made of yourself to react within a chat’, which are a 10-second thumbnail-sized video.
  • Audio notes – as above, but audio not video.
  • Send multiple photos from your phone at the same time – and edit the shit out of them in Snapchat.
  • Auto-playing Snap Stories – so, you’ll get to the end of DJ Khaled and it’ll flip straight on over to Kylie Jenner, or vice versa.
Thx TechCrunch for this ‘how to send a note’ GIF:

In a blog post, Snapchat said they were super duper excited about the updates because it mimics the way you communicate in person… but over a phone! Genius!

“You can start by sending a few chats, and when your friend shows up, start talking or video chatting instantly with one tap. Your friend can simply listen if you want to sing them a song, or watch if you have a new puppy to show them. If they aren’t there, you can quickly send an audio note to say what you mean. And sometimes, a sticker says it best 🙂

“What we love most about the new Chat is how easily you can transition between all these ways of communicating — just like you do in person. When that’s possible, you aren’t texting, calling, or video chatting… you’re just talking. We’ve been working on this redesign for a while — we can’t wait to hear what you think!”
