Sinead McNamara Called Home While Crying In Days Before Death, Says Lawyer

The family of Sinead McNamara, the Australian woman who died last week in Greece after a tragic incident aboard a superyacht, say she called them crying in the days before her death.

Speaking to local outlet Keep Talking Greece, the family’s attorney Charalampos Triantafyllopoulos said the 20-year-old was distressed while discussing an incident pertaining to a fellow crew member aboard the Mayan Queen IV.

Triantafyllopoulos did not elaborate on the context of the phone call, but said the family had been in regular contact with McNamara during her tenure on the vessel, and believed her to be in good spirits before the call.

The information regarding the phone call came in a broader statement in which Triantafyllopoulos expressed the family’s desire for Greek authorities to conduct an exhaustive investigation into the circumstances of McNamara’s death.

Her family is also seeking an explanation for why it took so long for medical authorities to transfer her to a hospital in Athens when she had already been unconscious for hours.

The family had faith in Greek investigators, the attorney said, adding they “hope that the above critical issues will be thoroughly explored and that they will receive as appropriate answers for the sudden and unexpected death of their daughter.”

McNamara was discovered tangled in rope on the back of the vessel. Authorities stated there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding McNamara’s death.

Although an autopsy has been conducted, no toxicology reports nor an official cause of death have been released.

Local authorities obtained CCTV footage from aboard the vessel and interviewed other crew members before it was allowed to depart from the port of Argostoli earlier this week.
