Shia LaBeouf Is Livestreaming His Heartbeat Online At SXSW, For Some Reason

Austin’s annual festival that you hopelessly pine for every year, South By Southwest, has kicked off this week, and it isn’t, for reasons unbeknownst to logic, without its ~artistic~ contribution from Shia LaBeouf. With the help of his collaborators Luke Turner and Nastja Säde Rönkkö, LaBeouf will be wearing a heart monitor at all times while he attends SXSW from March 13-18, with his heartbeat then being transmitted live to a website, follow-my-heart.net.

Truly Earth-shattering stuff. The site, which literally has a livestream of a pink, beating heart and little else, is oddly soothing as you watch it beat away. It could, obviously, be a generated loop of an animation and nobody would know any better, but this is art, people, so let LaBeouf have his fun.

Look at li’l LaBeouf go:

The manifesto that went with the piece, however, is the real work of pretension art here:

When people say, “listen to your heart”, they are urging us to tune in to the loving side of our selves; the imaginative, the intuitive, the compassionate, the inner wisdom we all possess. They are telling us to listen to our passion.

As we roam the SXSW festival, the data of my heart will roam the networks, transmitted live at FOLLOW-MY-HEART.NET for us to follow together in real time for the duration. With our physical distance collapsed by the networks, that innermost and most intimate of rhythms will be rendered immediate on our digital screens.

Like cats have whiskers, we too are born with a guidance system: our heart. It is our inner GPS, our map, and our guide. It promises to lead us down the path of maximum fulfillment. If you #FOLLOWMYHEART, it may lead to yours.

Follow Shia’s heart over here.
