Several Casualties Confirmed After Brussels Airport Suffers Two Explosions

Two large explosions have rocked Brussels’ international airport in Zaventem, and local fire services have reported several casualties at the scene.

Video of the aftermath has emerged on social media.

Eyewitnesses report the blasts blew out windows at the Belgian capital’s airport, and plumes of smoke have been seen rising from one of the terminal buildings.

The airport is in the process of being evacuated, while all flights have been suspended, along with rail travel to the facility.

Sky employee Alex Rossiwho was at the scene, said “the thinking here is that it is some kind of terrorist attack although that hasn’t been verified by any of the authorities here at the airport.”
“There is a great deal of confusion here. Certainly there are a number of very upset, as you might imagine, very frightened people.”

The BBC notes the explosions have taken place just four days after the capture of the Paris terrorist attacks’ primary suspect Salah Abdelsalam in Brussels.

We’ll update this story as it develops.
