Senator Nova Peris Slams Andrew Bolt Over Stolen Generation Denial

Regular News Corp columnist and incredibly questionable media rag Andrew Bolt is deservedly copping heat today, as former Olympian and Australia’s first Indigenous woman elected to Federal Parliament Nova Peris has slammed Bolt at the Garma Festival in Arnhem Land, over the columnist’s vocal denial of the Stolen Generations in Australia.

Bolt’s views on the Stolen Generations in Australia were brought into serious question overnight, when New Matilda journalist Ben Eltham submitted a formal complaint to the Australian Press Council over a blog post written yesterday, where Andrew Bolt commented on the existence of the Stolen Generations.

“It is now a sin – even a crime against high art – to mention that despite all the apologies, all the teaching, all the ceremonies and all the newspaper stories, no one to this day has been able to name even 10 of the children allegedly stolen by officials just for being Aborigines.

Even the courts cannot find them, for all the activists now appointed to the judiciary. Yet I predict that questioning the ‘stolen generations’ myth will soon be ruled unlawful.”

Bolt also commented on the Stolen Generations in a previous column for News Corp in March last year (in which he slammed Adam Goodes for being named Australian of the Year) saying, “But whether the stolen generations exist is a highly contested issue.”

According to The New Daily, Nova Peris delivered impassioned criticism of Andrew Bolt’s views, calling for Prime Minister Tony Abbott to take a stand against the commentator.

“My grandfather had chains around his goddamned neck, that’s the history of this country, but we keep closing the history books,” Peris said.

“Andrew Bolt says the stolen generation is a myth, that’s bullshit, it happened. Tony Abbott could have picked up a phone and said ‘sack this person, he is a disgrace to this country’.”

Preach.

Those also wishing to throw Andrew Bolt directly into the bin can lodge a complaint to the Australian Press Council over here.
