Alright. WHO LET THIS MAN INTO POLITICS?
In the wake of the dumb fucking thing the Coalition did yesterday [voting no on a conscience vote on same-sex marriage], Senator Eric Abetz has said a dumb fucking thing about gay men and their desire to get married that’s so fucking dumb it almost can’t be believed.
As reported in the SMH:
“Senator Eric Abetz claims gay men don’t really want to get married, pointing to the example of billionaire Italian fashion designers Dolce and Gabbana, who never wed.”
YES, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (who are no longer in a romantic relationship) didn’t want to wed. YES, they said children should have a mother and father. AND YES, a lot of people were a bit pissed off about it.
But that doesn’t mean they speak for every homosexual person on the planet, Eric.
Case in point, the statement they released after the world went bananas over their marriage equality stance:
“We believe firmly in democracy and we think freedom of expression is essential for that. We talked about our way of looking at the world, but it was not our intention to express a judgement on other people’s choices. We believe in freedom in love.”
