See Venomous ‘STRAYAN Stonefish And Sea Snake Embroiled In Deadly 69

Alluring and mildly misleading title aside, there was virtually nothing sexy about the lubricated tête-à-tête diver Rick Trippe recently stumbled across in Darwin Harbour.

This prime example of some Cold War mutually assured destruction type ‘o shite was caught on film by one of Trippe’s mates while they were out ‘sploring a WWII wreck.
“I asked my mate to take a couple of photos, he wasn’t too keen but he took them – the snake had the stonefish locked in its mouth,” said Trippe.

The Trippe continued: “I know sea snakes are dangerous, so I grabbed it carefully and pulled the stonefish out of its mouth.”

And then apparently the mean old sea snake [Ed Note: conjecture] came back around at the juicy looking [Ed Note: leading the witness] stonefish – “I could hear the fish croaking so I let them both go, but the snake made a beeline back to the fish” – so he “just left them be.”

“I don’t think it would have ended up very well for either of them,” he said. “In decades of spearfishing on the harbour, I’ve probably only seen four or five sea snakes and I’ve never seen one doing anything like this… I’m very careful, snakes are deadly, but they generally don’t bother people, they just come up to take a breath.”
