Scottish Woman Finds Sneaky Snake In Her Shoe After Flight Home From Oz

A woman has returned to Scotland from Queensland with a friendly neighbourhood reptile unknowingly stashed in her shoe, completing the most incredible (and unintended) snake adoption of our times.

The ABC reports the highly resilient snake survived the flight from Mackay to Glasgow and was later spotted by Moira Boxall just chilling in her room in a shoe. Side note: the distance from Queensland to Glasgow is apparently over 15,000 kilometres. That does not sound like a fun flight to spend in a suitcase.

Anywho, Boxall’s son-in-law Paul Airlie told the ABC that she initially thought the snake was a bit of a gag.

“She actually thought that Sarah [daughter] and I had put a fake snake in her shoe to wind her up, so at first she thought it was a joke until she touched it and it moved,” he said.

“She absolutely lost it — it was her first real encounter with a snake.”

As Boxall had no idea what type of snake it was, she called Airlie who quickly reached out to the Scottish RSPCA.

Turns out, the snake is a wee lil’ spotted python. The species are non-venomous and are actually a popular pet among reptile enthusiasts.

The sneaky snake is now in quarantine and could find a new home in a local zoo.

You can check out the piccies on the ABC, HEREAlthough, the snake did shed during its trip so if you’re a bit squeamish with that sort of stuff, you might want to give it a pass.
