SBS Launch Map Of The ‘Struggle Street’ In Any Aussie Country Town

3-part SBS documentary series Struggle Streetdespite much controversy from the original promotional material, has opened up a lot dialogue about the issues faced in rural areas of Australia.

Tonight’s final episode showed the destruction that drugs, particularly ice, can wreak on rural families, as well bringing up topics such as mental illness, alcoholism, homelessness, and domestic abuse.

In conjunction with tonight’s episode, SBS launched an interactive map that shows the IRSAD (Relative Socio-economic Advantage and Disadvantage) of rural Aussie towns, to prove that these issues are important, they need to be addressed, and they are not unique to Mt Druitt
Issues such as high unemployment, low average wages, drug and alcohol addiction and high demand for health and mental health services exist Australia-wide, and are especially prominent in country towns.
