UK Police Confirm That Remains Found In Woodland Are Those Of Missing Woman Sarah Everard

Sarah Everard

The search for Sarah Everard has come to a tragic end, with reports that human remains found this week in woodlands in Kent have been identified as those of the missing woman.

33-year-old Sarah Everard disappeared while walking home from a friend’s house in south London on March 3. Nick Ephgrave of London’s Metropolitan Police said:

“Sarah’s family have been updated with this distressing news. Specialist officers remain in constant contact with Sarah’s family, and will continue to support them throughout the investigation and beyond. That investigation continues at a pace and we have hundreds of officers working round the clock to establish the full circumstances of Sarah’s disappearance, and her murder.”

The phrase “she was just walking home” began to trend on social media in the wake of her disappearance, with scores of women sharing their horror and outrage at the case and explaining the precautionary measures they themselves adopt.

Sky News correspondent Kate McCann said:

“What happened to Sarah Everard has hit home hard for so many women because we make the calculations she did every day too. We take the longer, better-lit route, push the fear aside for the voice that says ‘don’t be daft, you’ve every right to walk home alone at night and be safe.’”

A London police officer has been charged with Everard’s kidnap and murder. 48-year-old Wayne Couzens is set to appear in court on Saturday, local time. A woman aged in her 30s was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
