SA Cops Shoot Man After He Allegedly Threatened 3Y.O. With A Gun After Chase

Police in Adelaide have shot a man after he allegedly threatened a child with a gun during an abduction and chase that lasted around 90 minutes.

The man had allegedly assaulted and abducted his children and former partner at gunpoint before forcing them into a car in the suburb of Cumberland Park, before driving through Adelaide’s west and northeast and being stopped on Hindley St about 11.45pm.
Tactical officers surrounded the car when the man allegedly produced a gun and threatened the three-year-old child, leading police to shoot him. He was rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital but it is believed that his injuries are not fatal.
Assistant Police Commissioner Paul Dickson gave a press conference at the scene:

“Once [police] stopped the vehicle they attempted to arrest the offender,” he said.
“When they were doing that, it will be alleged that the offender threatened the three-year-old girl with a firearm, and that is when a decision was made for the police officer to fire at the offender.”
The woman and the two children are not believed to be injured, but are being treated for shock at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
