YouTube Star Ryker Gamble Dies After Slipping From Waterfall In Canada

Extreme travel blogger Ryker Gamble was one of three young YouTube stars to die in a tragic accident this week, after slipping and falling from a waterfall in British Columbia, Canada.

Gamble, Alexey Lyakh and Megan Scraper, all of whom were affiliated with the High On Life channel, were swimming in a pool at Shannon Falls when the incident occurred.

Per reports in the Vancouver Sun, Scraper slipped and fell around 30 metres into a lower pool; Gamble and Lyakh attempted to save her, but were apparently also swept away.

The remaining members of High On Life, which posts videos from extreme locations and aims to inspire fans to explore the world, shared a tribute to the three on Friday.

Holding back tears, Parker Heuser remembered them as “three of the warmest, kindest, most driven and outgoing people you could ever meet”, and urged fans to respect their families’ privacy.

Speaking with Canada’s Globe And Mail, Gamble’s cousin Rob Mangelsdorf offered fond memories of him, saying:

“He just had the ability to make a deep impact on people very quickly. He was very much loved by all those who knew him.”

Speaking about the incident, he added:

“My understanding is they just went for a hike, they weren’t doing anything silly. Even in his final act on this earth he was trying to save the life of his very best friend. He’d known [Alexey] his whole life, since they were little, little kids. They were inseparable, absolutely inseparable their whole lives.”

Last year, Ryker Gamble and several other High On Life members were banned from US federal land for five years, after walking on a sensitive spot near the hot springs in Yellowstone National Park.

Following the incident, the men admitted that they were “overzealous” in their attempts to get up close to the natural wonder, saying that they were unaware of the ecological effects of their actions.

They also offered a $5000 donation as an apology.
