Ryan From ‘MAFS’ Is Gonna Make His Stand-Up Comedy Debut & We Ain’t Joking

Having a hastily-arranged marriage collapse in flames on national television is nothing if not a door-opening experience, it should be said. And where one slams shut in wild fashion before millions of eyes across Australia, another one creaks ajar ever-so-slightly in a small club in suburban Melbourne. Yes, it’s really happening: Ryan from Married at First Sight is officially set to make his stand-up comedy debut. Hoo boy.

A few weeks ago the 29-year-old Ryan Gallagher spoke with the Daily Telegraph and expressed a desire to at least have a go at a career change to stand-up, stating he didn’t particularly want to just go back to being a tradie after the show concludes.

At the time of the interview, Ryan stated: “I’ve always liked comedy. I want to have a go at stand-up. I don’t want to go back to what I did before. I’m not that funny, so I might have to buy some jokes.

Apparently he’s cracked open the wallet, because he’s just been announced for his very first gig.

Melbourne comedy cornerstone The Yarraville Club has added Ryan to their 5th Birthday show lineup scheduled for this coming Saturday, March 24th, with the young lad’s grand comedy unveiling set to take place alongside a veritable who’s who of Australian stand-up personalities.

A real thing that’s happening.

Ryan’s grand comedy debut happens to be on a bill that also features the likes of Becky LucasLawrence MooneyNick CodyTony Martin, the Scared Weird Little Guys, and a host of unannounced guests from TV. Ordinarily your first comedy gig comes in the third bracket of an agonisingly long open mic night after about 28 other comics, five of which (almost always straight white males, would you believe) had sets about anti-feminism and sexual assault. So this is a plum gig in every sense of the phrase.

Will he use this opportunity to spill some long-overdue Davina-related tea? Who bloody knows.

If he’s smart though, he’d save that for his big closer.

Leave ’em wanting more, y’know?

If you’re keen to witness this historic moment, tickets for the show are available via Yarraville Laughs.
