Rural Meter Reader Scared Off NSW Property By Literal Snake In The Grass

Blessed is the snake yarn, and blessed is this one in particular as it doesn’t involve anyone having to cop an actual bite or see a wallaby get digested or whatever. Nope, today’s Yarn O’ Snek is a good old-fashioned, wholesome, scare-away-the-powers-that-be story.

NSW farmer Ian Trevethan tweeted a fairly unusual note left by the bloke who’d come to read his power meter. Instead of complaining about an unrestrained dog or a ride-on mower in the way of the meter, this Essential Energy contractor found himself thwarted by a thnake. Snake. Sorry.

Your assistance is required because your meter was blocked by BROWN SNAKE“, reads the note, and as Trevethan quite rightly said: “Only in Australia.

According to the note, the contractor was “able to read 1 meter before snake came out of grass“, at which point he’d be forgiven for dropping everything and bolting back to the truck. In fact, that he was able to write and leave a note is a testament to his commitment to the work, imho.

Plenty of punters on Twitter have taken the opportunity to take the piss out of the charade that is meter reads, and once again: only in Australia.

Of course, considering the brown snake is the second most venomous in the world… probably not worth trying to get that reading, actually.

doooooon’t

Bless you, snakes of Australia. May the yarns keep coming in perpetuity.
