‘Roseanne’ Is Officially Getting A Spinoff Minus Racist Tweeter Roseanne Herself

Less than a month after making the much-applauded decision to axe the Roseanne reboot following Roseanne Barr‘s racist tweet, ABC has announced plans to create a spinoff series centered around the Conner fam, sans Roseanne.

The 10 episode, straight-to-series project is tentatively titled The Conners and according to a press release from ABC, it will find the family “forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before” following “a sudden turn of events.”

So, they’re not just figuratively killing off the character of Roseanne, they’re literally killing her.

John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman have all signed on for The Conners, and ABC said additional cast members will be announced later on in the piece.

The show’s remaining cast issued a joint statement expressing relief at the new series order.

“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

ABC have also settled their money qualms so Barr won’t receive a single penny from the spinoff, according to the network’s release.

“Roseanne Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series.”

Barr recently confirmed that going forward she will have no connection to the show in any of its incarnations whatsoever:

“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne. I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.”
