Roseanne Barr For President?

Most of us remember Roseanne Barr as the boisterous, straight-down-the-line and highly-entertaining mother of five from one of America’s most dependable long-running sitcoms, Roseanne (1988 – 1997) and now a whole other generation are set to get acquainted with Barr’s larger than life persona as the 58-year-old comic has announced her campaign to run for the Oval Office.

Overnight, Barr and anti-war running mate, Cindy Sheehan accepted the nomination of the Peace and Freedom Party (PFP), marking the legitimate beginning of their joint bid for the White House. Watch your back, Barack.

Hugely successful, Barr’s eponymous sitcom covered what were then controversial topics – from homosexuality, child abuse and alcoholism to teenage sexuality – giving Roseanne a familiarity with her audience that could place her in good stead with America’s working-class families. The reality, however, is that Barr actually won’t feature on enough ballots in November to give her the slightest mathematical chance of claiming the title of POTUS. The Californian PFP, according to CNN, doesn’t actually register much of a presence outside its home state. The largest foreseeable benefit from Barr’s president campaign being that Barr serves as a highly visible reminder to drive voter registration for future elections in November and beyond.

Regardless – go Rosi, I say! Here she is, in flying patriotic form:
