Relatives Of MH370 Victims Gather 2 Years On, Plea For Continued Search

It’s been two long years for friends and family of those lost during Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370’s infamous disappearance. In that time search efforts haven’t turned up much of anything, let alone a reason for the Boeing 777′s drastic detour after taking off from Kuala Lumpur.

Now, in that same city, activist groups are calling on international authorities not to suspend the search for the plane.

Ahead of a proposed gathering of authorities from Australia, Malaysia, and China in June on whether the estimated 120,000 sq km, $170m search should be continued, Jacquita Gonzales, the wife of in-flight supervisor Patrick Gomes, wondered why “they can stop the search, but where do we stop the feeling of loss?”

“Our loved ones are not home yet, so how can we say it’s the end?”

Other relatives have scrutinised the search process, especially the fact Australian authorities may have started examining a patch of ocean due to faulty data in a “drift model.”

The meeting is also serving as a memorial; white balloons were released in honour of those onboard, while messages of love and support were left on-site.

March 8 will mark exactly two years since the plane vanished. Outside of a flaperon from the plane and a 19th Century shipwreck, the efforts until now have been largely for nought.
