Oh Ann, you beautiful tropical fish. The final season of Parks & Recreation is looming (and thus, the day where we’ll all have to face living in a world without NBC’s big four sitcoms in Parks, 30 Rock, Community and The Office being on the air) and the show’s creators plan on going out with a bang as opposed to any manner of whimper.
Following the news that Jon Hamm will be making a return to Pawnee, Indiana for the last hurrah, today comes the news that both Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe will be also be heading back to familiar soils to reprise their regular cast roles of Chris Traeger and Ann Perkins-Traeger.
Those of you with nerdy enough memories will recall that it was Lowe, along with Adam Scott, who arguably gave the show the nudge it needed to go from pretty good to really great when their characters arrived on the show in late season 2. Lowe’s character ultimately wound up marrying Jones’ Ann Perkins and together the pair left Pawnee to move to Michigan. But it seems that in the show’s seventh, and final season, the pair will be re-visiting Pawnee for at least one episode.
And if that’s not enough, the show’s crew doesn’t plan on stopping the cameos there. Parks co-creator Michael Schur stated to TV Line:
“We made a list of people that we needed to see back one more time. We didn’t get everybody we wanted, because some people had other obligations. But a lot of the people we were hoping to see one more time — we managed to make that happen.“
So whilst the seventh season doesn’t have a premiere date just yet, don’t let that stop you from getting your hopes wildly up of seeing Bobby Newport, Mark Brendanawicz, Mona Lisa Saperstein, Officer Dave Sanderson, Greg Pikitis, Tammy’s 1 & 2, The Douche, and all your favourite whacky Pawnee residents.
And until then cross your damned fingers and hope for the Burt Macklin/Jean-Ralphio buddycop spinoff movie that will happen if there’s any godforsaken justice in this screwed up work-a-day world.
