Queenslanders might just have the strongest in-person mateships in this fine nation, according to the brand-spanking new report on Australian social media usage.
Only 74% of banana benders surveyed by analytics firm Sensis reported using social media, as opposed to the national average of 79%.
However, it turns out they may have marginally less need to stalk each other on Facebook. Queenslanders reported actually meeting their online contacts in person over the past year at a higher rate than punters in any other state.
Similarly, Queensland reported the lowest rate of smartphone ownership in Australia. 78% of residents spent their days beholden to those ubiquitous obsidian rectangles, compared to over 90% of South Aussies and Northern Territorians. As mentioned earlier, they’re probs too busy, you know, yakking in person.
The report has also kicked up some other pretty interesting tidbits, too: on average, Queenslanders reported having 308 Instagram followers. That puts them in third place, after the ACT on 321, and the NT, on a stonking 331.
Across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and, uh, Google+, Queenslanders had an average of 546 social media contacts. That’s second only to those in the NT, who report having 611.
