When your mate falls asleep at a party you can be forgiven for drawing a schlong on their face with permanent marker, or putting their hand in a bucket of water, or putting them in a variety of novelty hats and posing for increasingly hilarious photographs to post on Facebook the next day. Harmless fun.
What you should not ever ever do, not ever, please don’t, really, it’s dangerous, is set them on fire. This should not be a particularly hard rule to follow.
But in rural Queensland this weekend, revellers did not follow this very simple rule: at a house party in Roma, six hours west of Brisbane, a 27-year-old guy’s mates decided to douse him in lighter fluid and set him on fire. This is not a good joke. This is a bad joke. This is a joke that results in grievous bodily harm.
Emergency services arrived at the house at about 3am on Sunday, before rushing the man to Roma Hospital with serious burns.
Queensland Police said that he had suffered first and second degree burns to his back and hip. They also said that they were not able to question witnesses on Sunday because the revellers were all still too drunk. They have since been able to conduct interviews.
The man was released from hospital on Monday. While he is still in pain, police have said he would not be lodging a formal complaint against his shit mates.
Srsly tho, get some new mates.
