No statue is kind to its inspiration, this is a known fact. There is no statue in the world that does justice to the person it’s modelled off. Nobody is immune to this, not even the People’s Princess, Diana Spencer, which we have learned today.
To mark what would have been her 60th birthday, her sons Prince Harry and Prince William unveiled a statue of Princess Di at Kensington Palace, and… well look let’s just say they had a red-hot go at it.
The bronze statue, which stands in Di’s favourite garden on the palace grounds – the Sunken Garden, surrounded by hundreds of her favourite flowers and plants – shows the late Princess with her arms around three unknown children, in a nod to the humanitarian causes she supported before her death.

Harry and William put out a statement about the statue after they unveiled it to the public on Thursday, hoping it will be seen as a symbol of her ongoing legacy.
“Today, on what would have been our mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better,” they said.
“Every day, we wish she were still here with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and legacy.”
Importantly, this is the first time the two princes have been together in quite some time, with their ongoing feuding around various things including Meghan Markle, duty, and the direction of the family being played out in public.
The BBC reported that this statue unveiling might be the last chance they could have at reconciling, and from all the photos it looks like they’re being pretty civil and look, dare I say it, happy to be in each other’s company?

The Diana statue has straight up divided people online, with some seeing it as a perfect way to honour her life and achievements, while others likened it to countless other cooked statues around the world.
Why is in that new statue is Princess Di dressed like she is cosplaying as Miss Trunchbull?

Let’s be honest – it’s not a great statue of Diana. pic.twitter.com/V8KZkbDmFF

I can’t believe I’m kinda agreeing with Piers Morgan, a literal roll of turgid devon meat, here.
I mean, it’s not as absolutely fucked up as that bust of Cristiano Ronaldo that burnt itself into the back of my memory, but it’s also not super forgiving, is it.
One thing I think we can all probably agree on is the choice of outfit used for Diana’s statue here, and how it truly should have been the Revenge Dress.
Sorry but the Diana statue should be wearing the revenge dress pic.twitter.com/emw57hCKkM

That look simply must be respected and captured in bronze for all eternity, let’s be real.
