Police Say The YouTuber Caught Hitting Her Dog Won’t Be Charged With Animal Abuse

The YouTuber who last month uploaded a video to her page that showed her smacking and spitting at her dog will not face charges.

Los Angeles Police told BuzzFeed News that the case against Brooke Houts was officially closed, with the state’s Animal Cruelty Task Force finding “there was no crime” committed.

“Animal Task Force looked into the matter — obviously they saw the video the public had seen. They determined it didn’t rise to the level of animal cruelty,” police said in a statement.

Houts, who has almost 330,000 subscribers on YouTube, made headlines in August. Uploading an un-edited segment with her dog, Sphinx, the YouTuber angrily shouted, smacked, and spat on her dog after it jumped on her multiple times.

At the time, Houts responded on Twitter with a lengthy statement that denied spitting on her dog, declaring she was “not a dog abuser or animal abuser in any way, shape, or form.”

“Should I have gotten as angry as I did in the video? No. Should I have raised my voice and yelled at him? No,” wrote Houts.

“When my 75 pound doberman is jumping up in my face with his mouth open, I do, as a dog parent, have to show him that this behaviour is unacceptable. But I want to make it known, regardless of what my dog does, I should not have acted that way towards him.”
