Police Investigating After Woman’s Body Found In Melbourne Park

Melbourne

Homicide detectives are investigating after a woman’s body was found in Melbourne’s inner-north on Saturday morning.

The woman, who is yet to be identified, was found by a passer-by near tennis courts in Royal Park on Elliott Avenue, Parkville at about 9:15am.

The circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be established, Victoria Police said in a statement. They are treating her death as suspicious.

No arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Media on ground report a large area of the park has been cordoned off as police search for evidence.

Addressing reporters this afternoon, Victoria Police assistant commissioner Luke Cornelius deplored violence against women.

“This is about men’s behaviour. This is not about women’s behaviour,” he said. “For me as a man, it gives me pause for reflection about what is it about our community that makes men think it’s okay to attack women.”

He said people in the area should expect to see an increased police presence as their search continues.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
