The whole ‘DIY thing’ became super popular once Jamie Durie started making home improvements sexy, but it seems everyone’s forgotten that the best reasons for doing things yourself is because you are flat broke and are looking for an inspired way to cut corners. Enter ‘Plan A’, an exhibition put on by serial indie artist Daniel Bourke and nine similarly destitute friends, to explore the original motivations behind fixing that plumbing or putting together that wall cabinet without calling a professional. In true form, the thing is free. You don’t even need to bring a hammer, which is good, because we broke ours last week trying to make a bookshelf.
