Pauline Hanson Did A ‘Today’ Interview From A Cemetery Like A MySpace Goth

Pauline Hanson is a lot of things; very few, if any, of them good. But beyond all else – putting aside the bigotry, fearmongering, the enormous inadequacy complex, the complete ineptitude, and the magnetism that attracts only the skin that forms on top of the milk – she is, above all else, a deeply fucken weird unit.

That’s evident in just about everything she says, does, or thinks, but it’s probably never been put on display quite as vividly as this morning on The Today Show, when Hanson chose to do a live cross on a national breakfast TV show while standing in the middle of a decrepit graveyard like North Queensland’s most angsty goth.

Speaking in Rockhampton on a litany of subjects, because commercial breakfast TV is nothing if not a hapless moth stuck in the orbit of Hanson’s bug zapper, the sudden appearance of the graveyard prompted Deborah Knight to, quite rightly, ask “why,” leading to one of the all-time great moments in satellite delay history.

“Pauline, you’re at a cemetery this morning in Rockhampton… wh-why?”
“Yes.”
[SEVERAL SECONDS OF SILENCE]

Hanson went on to note that she finds cemeteries “fascinating,” which is the kind of shit you expect to hear from a scene kid packing a point-and-shoot digital camera and the new Hawthorne Heights CD making a bee-line for the spookiest gravestone so they can fire off a photoshoot for MySpace.
