Patti Smith Writing ‘Just Kids’ TV Series Based On Her Award-Winning Memoir

For those looking to immerse themselves in the “adolescent salvation” of books, rock ‘n’ roll and television, the award-winning memoir ‘Just Kids‘ is to be made into a Showtime series.

On what it turning out to be a big day for adaptations – (CC: The Notebook) – Patti Smith said of her desire to explore the story through a different medium: “A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation. The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book.”

John Logan, the playwright and producer of ‘Penny Dreadful,’
will be co-writing alongside Patti. “It’ll be the story of Patti and Robert and the people in their world,” said David Nevins, the president of Showtime, calling it a “very coveted property.”

“No one expected me. Everything awaited me.”
