NSW Police Officer Stabbed, One Man Shot Dead In An Incident In Maroubra

A 50-year-old NSW Police officer has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after being stabbed in an incident that reportedly saw the alleged offender shot dead.

The incident occurred just prior to 3:30pm this afternoon in Maroubra in Sydney’s south-east.

The officer was reportedly responding to a call at the Maroubra Junction Hotel near ANZAC Parade when he was stabbed twice in the torso. The alleged assailant is said to have been shot dead. Another man was received stab wounds to the neck in the incident.

A heavy police presence has cordoned off the area as investigators move in to assess the scene. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing as many as four gunshots.

The westbound lane of Maroubra Road has been closed off.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson confirmed that one man had received stab wounds to the upper torso and had been transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Authorities confirmed the alleged assailant died at the scene.

It’s not known what sparked the police call out. NSW Police has not issued official comment on the incident at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
