A Heap Of NSW Spots Around Jervis Bay Are On Alert After A Melbourne Visitor Tested Positive

Jervis Bay

NSW has issued a health alert after a traveller from Melbourne tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from a camping trip on the NSW South Coast.

The person in question got tested for COVID-19 on May 31, but they may have been infectious while in the Jervis Bay area of NSW on May 23 and 24. They returned to Melbourne before Victoria issued a stay-at-home order, so it’s not as if they were breaking any rules at the time.

“Anyone who lives in Jervis Bay, or has visited Jervis Bay since May 22, is asked to be especially vigilant for the onset of even the mildest of cold-like symptoms, and is urged to come forward for testing immediately if they appear, then isolate until a negative result is received,” a NSW Health spokesperson said.

“Additionally, anyone who has recently had symptoms should also get tested.”

That includes locals, as well as anyone Sydneysiders who may have been down the coast over the weekend.

On top of the venues listed in and around Jervis Bay, the traveller also visited the petrol station at the Big Merino, an icon of the Southern Highlands and an obligatory rest stop for anyone with a penchant for big balls.

So far, the full list of venues where visitors should get tested immediately and isolate until further notice is as follows:

Goulburn: Shell Coles Express Big Merino, Monday 24 May from 10am to 11:30am

Goulburn: Trapper’s Bakery, Monday 24 May from 10:30am to 11:30am

Hyams Beach: Cooked Goose Café (formerly Hyams Beach Café), Sunday 23 May from 10am to 12pm

Jervis Bay: Green Patch campground, Booderee National Park, Sunday 23 May all day and Monday 24 May until 9am

Vincentia: Coles, Sunday 23 May from 10am to 10:20am

This list is expected to grow as contact tracers continue their investigation. That’s not the mention the fact the traveller also visited the Victorian towns of Euroa, Glenrowan and Wallan on their way back to Melbourne.
