New Doco Claims The Titanic Actually Sank Due To A Giant-Ass Coal Fire

A new documentary that’s soon to hit icebergs screens is all about that infamous ship, The Unsinkable Ship That Couldn’t Float. Known to most as the Titanic.
If you’ve somehow avoided seeing one of the most famous movies of all time [UNNECESSARY SPOILER ALERT] the Titanic sank on April 14th in 1912, because it hit a giant iceberg.
Then, Kate Winslet doesn’t move the bloody heck over while she’s floating on the door, and Leonardo DiCaprio lets go and drowns because of her selfish, selfish behaviour. Poor Leo
However – this new doco, created by author and journalist Senan Molony, reckons that the Titanic was doomed from the start because there was a goddamn coal fire happening on the ship before it had even bloody set off.

Molony says a bunch of pictures in a forgotten album prove this theory, particularly this photo:

That black mark is, according to Molony, created by a massive fire that was burning for weeks in a coal bunker, and “the anomaly is exactly the place where it struck the iceberg”.
Molony tells CNN that he’s always been fascinated by the Titanic‘s story, particularly:
“I’ve always been fascinated by why it sped up towards an ice field.”
His investigations suggest workers in the boiler room could’ve tried to clear the burning coal bunker, and that the only place to put the coal was in the ship’s furnaces, which would have made Titanic steam on at a faster speed.
The journalist says that the coal fire weakened and warped the bulkhead, which “led to an accelerated sinking”. The fire has always reportedly been known, but Molony says it has been gravely underplayed.
His theories have been denounced by the British Titanic Society‘s former secretary David Hill:
“There certainly was a fire. Was it a life-changer? It’s my personal opinion that it didn’t make a difference.”
However, the Society’s convention officer Nikki Allen told CNN that the documentary had “ignited discussion around the world.”
Senan Molony‘s documentary ‘Titanic: The New Evidence is available from Channel 4.
