New Campaign Ad Wants You To Think Of The Great Barrier Reef When You Vote

Earlier this year, news emerged that coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef is now at around 93% of the entire reef. NINETY THREE PERCENT.
So, a new tourism ad has emerged that encourages Aussies to put the once-majestic tourist attraction at the forefront of their minds when they hit the polls next month.

‘Fight for the Reef’ launched the advert on Monday; their campaign seeks to curb industrial port expansion, as well as grow renewable energy investment.
The 30-second advertisement shows tourism operator Nicole Graham sailing in Airlie Beach with her kids – she urges viewers to acknowledge the little amount of time we have.
“We can fix these problems and the reef will recover – but time is short,” she says.
The group hopes that the ad will help Aussies remember to think about the reef when they vote.

Australian Marine Conservation Society spokesperson Imogen Zethoven spoke of the importance of incorporating the health of the Great Barrier Reef into how you vote in July:

“Queensland seats have become critical this election and every voting Queenslander can make a difference.

A vote to protect the reef is a vote to protect jobs and the growth of the economy.”
