Neil Patrick Harris Will Be Hosting The Oscars Next Year

Being the host of the Oscars ceremony is arguably the toughest gig in Hollywood – just ask James Franco (or Anne Hathaway for having to deal with James Franco that night, for that matter) – but if there ever was someone with the natural charisma, stage presence, and all-around entertainment nous for the job, it’s Neil Patrick Harris.

The multi-talented, and recent Tony Award winning actor has been tapped to helm the lengthy annual American film industry circle jerk awards ceremony, following on from Ellen DeGeneres‘ successful – but reluctant – stint at the wheel this year.
The hosting gig at the Oscars exists in kind of a cyclical fashion – eventually, producers go back to either Steve Martin or Billy Crystal. But NPH presents as someone not only capable of successfully fronting such an enormous gig, but also doing so on multiple occasions. That said, his theatre experience isn’t a guarantee of success – Hugh Jackman has all the stage credentials in the world and still managed to fall short when he took the reigns in 2009.
Nonetheless, we’re damned excited to see what NPH can do with this platform. And by the looks of things, he is too; the actor took the social media platform MobyPicture (we’ve never heard of it either) to officially tick the gig off his bucket list.

The bottom line here is that as long as he avoids anything as wholly terrible as Seth MacFarlane‘s “We Saw Your Boobs” opening number, then everything will be just fine.
The 87th Academy Awards takes place on February 23rd (Australian time) next year.
