Natalie Portman Tells Harvard Grads To Do What They Love In Commencement Speech

It’s been a pretty solid season for commencement speeches at graduation ceremonies in the US. Tim Cook. Matthew McConaughey. Maya Rudolph. Stephen Colbert. Robert De Niro.

But what may be the most profound among the lot this year comes from the pure delight that is Natalie Portman, delivering Havard’s class of 2015 commencement address yesterday. No presh.

After wrapping on Star Wars, Portman began her academic career at Harvard – but not without feeling the all-too-familiar imposter syndrome – wondering if she really should be there. “I felt like there had been some mistake…that I wasn’t smart enough to be in this company,” NP told graduates.

Portman boldly told the Harvard class of 2015 that, after going through her Psychology degree, she ultimately realised that acting was her true calling. She called on the newly-graduated to look introspectively and find theirs:

“After four years of trying to get excited about something else, I admitted to myself that I couldn’t wait to get back to making more films. I wanted to tell stories, to imagine the lives of others, and to help others do the same.”
