Mum Fires Back At Online Hate Over Gorilla’s Death, Says “Accidents Happen”

As you might have seen, there’s been an enormous outpouring of grief over the death of Harambe the gorilla, who was shot after a 4-year-old boy fell into his enclosure at Cincinnati Zoo. Much of that grief has manifested itself as anger at the boy’s mother for ‘allowing’ him to fall in.

Obviously, it’s slightly disproportionate. Kids get up to mischief. Everyone who has a kid will probably at some point lose sight of them in a supermarket. It happens. Starting a Change.org petition to have the mother fired out of a cannon into the Sun is probably not the way to go about this.
The mother, Michelle Gregg, has reportedly fired back at the huge hate she’s been receiving online, with a Facebook post shared by persons unknown.
Here’s to the person who did the little ‘surprise’ reaction to this corker of a post.
The director of Cincinnati Zoo, Thayne Maynard, has been on the PR defensive, arguing that the decision to shoot Harambe was the right one, and that the zoo would do the same thing again. “You can’t take a risk with a silverback gorilla,” Maynard said. “We’re talking about an animal that I’ve seen take a coconut and crush it [with one hand].”

“When you see clips, you might not see everything that happened,” he continued. “[The boy’s] head was banging on concrete; this was not a gentle thing.”

Harambe’s sperm has apparently been saved for future breeding programs.
Expect this yarn to keep on rolling.
