This Mullet-Wearing 8-Year-Old Is Running 5km For Charity Like A Bloody Legend

Get ready to have your faith in today’s youth restored because this little legend from Phillip Island is gonna run 5km for charity.

Ryder Reid, who prides himself on being the 8-year-old version of Dustin Martin, is preparing to participate in Run Melbourne to raise much-needed funds for the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

“I’m inspired by the work of The Alannah & Madeline Foundation and want people to know that violence against anyone is not ok and wanted to support the foundation by raising money as part of my participation in Run Melbourne 2019.” Ryder penned on his Everyday Hero account (you can donate here).

It’s 2019 and kids usually just spend their days watching dumb videos on the internet, so it’s amazing to see this little guy getting out in the community like this.

The Richmond Tigers (aka Ryder’s fave team) are huge supporters of The Alannah & Madeline Foundation, so obviously they’ve rallied around their number one supporter. The Alannah & Madeline Foundation is Richmond’s go-to charity, with the club and its members donating over $750,000 since their partnership began in 2012.

“Ever since the first game he watched, [Ryder] was pretty much into Dusty – into the moves and everything he does.” Mum, who is also running the 5km, said.

Ryder, who sports a very spicy Dustin Martin-esque mullet, got to meet his hero and hang out at a Tigers training sesh. Talk about a feel-good story! Footy, charity and a kid with a cool mullet. What more do you need?

“To see Ryder out there brought me to tears. All the players were saying ‘Have fun on Sunday, you’re doing great,’ and he was high-fived by everyone.” Anita said.

It’s not every day that you hear of an 8-year-old being this selfless and charitable. Ryder Reid is a little legend and I think the Richmond Tigers should take him on as a recruit. I know there are laws against child labour and everything, but I would absolutely watch this kid kick a footy around for an hour every week.

Give this kid his own reality show. No, give him a Nobel Prize. I don’t care, just give this kid whatever he wants because he’s a superstar.

Run Melbourne takes place this Sunday 28 July between St Kilda Road and Federation Square. You can support Ryder by donating here, or by heading down on Sunday to cheer him on.
