Rightio, Muffin Break general manager Natalie Brennan reckons more and more Millennials are no longer seeking out unpaid internships, have an “‘inflated’ sense of self-importance” because of social media, and expect to be rewarded for just doing their jobs.

Whether this was an interesting attempt of encouragement or an opportunity to criticise the ~youth~ of today, Brennan quite clearly put her thoughts out there.
She told news.com.au: “There’s just nobody walking in my door asking for an internship, work experience or unpaid work, nobody. You don’t see it anymore.”
Brennan said the decline in young people rocking up to her door for internships started about ten years ago.
“In essence they’re working for free, but I can tell you every single person who has knocked on my door for an internship or work experience has ended up with a job. Every single person, because they back themselves.”
These days, Brennan thinks candidates – who lack real passion – believe “they’re better than the job” and expect an instant promotion and a raise.
“People are clueless,” she told news.com.au.
Brennan continued:“I’m generalising, but it definitely feels like this generation of 20-somethings has to be rewarded even if it’s the most mundane, boring thing, they want to be rewarded for doing their job constantly.”
Within hours, #MuffinBreak was trending on Twitter… for all the wrong reasons.
People did not hold back.
Funnily enough, a fair few users quoted an article by The Guardian in which a former Muffin Break franchisee was told “to consider underpaying staff that I can trust” in order to generate a profit.
