MPs $800K Gold Coast Investment Apartment Was Bought From A Lib Donor

Yesterday brought the news that Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley used a taxpayer-funded jaunt up to sunny Brisbane for a sliiiiiight detour down to the Gold Coast to purchase a $795,000 investment property. As you do.

Well, the plot thickens. Fairfax reports today that said property was purchased from a Liberal Party donor who knew Ms Ley in a professional capacity. This info comes from property records, which reveal that Ley bought the home from Martin Henry Corkery, a Queensland man who donated $50,000 to the Queensland Liberal National Party in 2011.
But Corkery denies having any clue Ley or her husband were bidders at the auction for the Gold Coast property, as he was in Paris at the time. Which, by the way, is the best possible alibi for anything. “She could have been Prince William for all I knew,” he said.
He also clarified that the donation he had made to the state branch was to support the election of former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman.
Opposition health spokesperson Catherine King has called on Ley to provide a better and clearer explanation of the exact circumstances in which the property was purchased, or resign.
