A 45-year-old man in has died in Florida after being struck by lightning while riding a motorbike on Interstate 95.

The man was travelling south on the interstate through Volusia County, just north of Orlando on the state’s east coast, when he was struck. Police said the accident occurred just after 3pm on Sunday local time.
Florida Highway Patrol shared an image of the man’s helmet, which shattered upon being struck by lightning, according to an off-duty Virginia state trooper that witnessed the accident.

Local news station WOGX-TV said that authorities had identified the man as a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina.
