Miley Cyrus Retracts Apology For Decade-Old Partially Nude Photoshoot

Miley Cyrus has wound back her apology for appearing semi-nude in a 2008 Annie Leibovitz photoshoot, telling the world she’s not actually sorry at all.

Taking to Twitter with a flurry of throwback images, Cyrus, 25, posted a shot of a New York Post front page labelling the Vanity Fair shoot as “Miley’s shame.”

This time, she added her own caption: “IM NOT SORRY fuck YOU #10yearsago”.

The photograph drew major attention at the time, as it represented a drastic turning point for Cyrus’ public image. In addition to contrasting with her work on Disney hit Hannah Montana, some commentators also criticised the image for overtly sexualising a minor.

Disney itself reportedly objected to the imagery, saying its young star was “deliberately manipulated” into posing for the image.

In response, Cyrus apologised, saying “I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed.

“I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.”

The decade since has seen Cyrus ditch Disney, launch a solo career which has veered into deliberate provocation, and emerge as a vocal advocate for LGBT issues and the American gun control movement.

Fans have responded to her recantation with mass positivity, and an appreciation that Cyrus has reclaimed the way she has been represented.

No word yet on whether Leibovitz – who defended the image at the time – is down for a ten-year anniversary shoot to commemorate Cyrus’ public backflip.
