Playwright Kenneth Lonergan‘s paean to disaffected urban hipsters, This Is Our Youth, will bring a slice of 1980s New York City to the Sydney Opera House this March.
You know what’s really exciting? The production is being helmed by the prolific off-Broadway director Mark Brokaw. Brokaw has notched up a Drama Desk Award, Obie Award and Lucille Lortel Award for his expansive contribution to New York theatre, which includes the first off-Broadway production of This Is Our Youth in 1996 starring a young Mark Ruffalo.
Also exciting? The fully imported cast of Michael Cera, Kieran Culkin (it’s a Scott Pilgrim reunion!) and the award-winning NZ actress Emily Barclay. The three join a long line of high profile Hollywood actors to tread the floorboards invoking the irony-doused riffing of Lonergan’s directionless, rich Manhattanites.
Tickets on sale to the general public Friday 10 February via the Sydney Opera House website. This will sell out.
